(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A suburban entrepreneur would like to conquer the world, at least where self-guided tours are concerned.
"We were searching for a way to get people off their couch and into the real world to take guided tours on their schedule, and that's why we created eAtlas," company president Jon Matuzak told WBBM Newsradio.
His mobile app allows people to take dozens of guided tours created by professional guides. People can take these tours on their own, whenever they want.
Among the Chicago sites available to explore: Bronzeville, Ravenswood Manor, Graceland Cemetery, Navy Pier, Millennium Park.
They're just like tours with guides, but cost far less, Matuzak said.
"We have some that are free. The most expensive one, and there's only a few of them in this range, are $20 to $30, but the great bulk of them are $10," he said.
Matuzak says eAtlas has done so well in Chicago, he is setting his sights beyond the Windy City.
"It's just a question of which city do we plant our flag in next and ultimately what country do we plant our flags in next. From my home in Downers Grove, I could build a tour of Berlin tonight if I had sufficient knowledge, pictures, audio clips and that sort of stuff, or a tour of Tel Aviv, Buenos Aries, name a place across the globe,” he said.
“So, it's truly a global opportunity. We're in Chicago now, because we happen to live here and are using Chicago sort of as our proving ground, but our ambitions are indeed global.”
The eAtlas app is available for iOS and Android, and it's Made in Chicago.
