CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO ) -- Fourth of July brought tons of tourists to Chicago, including several non-Americans who shared their thoughts on the patriotic day.

Many Americans dress up in red, white, and blue to show patriotism. However, Nathan Duke from the UK said dressing up in flag gear isn't something you'd see overseas.

"Not really, no. It's pretty American". But he said he can sort of relate to the holiday.

"Back home we've got a day called St. George's, it's kind of like a patriotic day."

Deny is from France, where he said the type of patriotism you see in America isn't as common.

"I'd say along the course of a year, perhaps Americans are more at ease at displaying, showcasing their patriotism, so fourth of July is that to even a more profound extent than France."

Stefanie Klauer from Australia compares what can be a controversial holiday in the states to her own experiences at home.

"In Australia we celebrate Australia Day and it also carries a lot of tension as well in Australia, so I can see how there might be a little bit of that in the states as well from different demographics."

But Kiara Ruddy from Ireland said in Chicago, the energy feels good.

"When you're looking around here, everyone's together and you be hoping it's a day of peace, that everyone, they're having a wonderful time and let's look at it that way."
