(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin is denying allegations of ethical violations contained in a letter newly made public.

The letter about Conyears-Ervin was written by the attorney for two treasurer’s office employees she fired. The 2020 communication to the then-city corporation counsel detailed claims by the ousted workers that Conyears-Ervin, among other things, used government workers to do personal work, such as plan her daughter’s birthday party and provide security.

The two former employees sued the city over their firings, which they said was in retaliation for their blowing the whistle over ethical misbehavior. The two shared a $100,000 settlement.

The Lightfoot Administration blocked public release of the letter, according to the Chicago Tribune, which had sought the document. The Johnson Administration released it.

In a statement from her political campaign organization, Conyers-Ervin said she has never misused public taxpayer funds or breached the public’s trust.
