Chicago is the best city in the U.S., according to Condé Nast Traveler readers.

Condé Nast Traveler named Chicago as the best big city in the United States for the seventh consecutive year. Chicago has received the award, which comes in the magazine’s Readers Choice Awards, every year since 2017.

“Chicago continues to be a force as a destination for visitors from all over the globe," Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement.

The 2023 award is based on the votes from readers around the world. Over 520,000 travelers cast their votes and once again crowned Chicago as the nation’s Best Big City.

"We will continue to welcome travelers from all over the world to experience all our city has to offer and the soul of Chicago," Johnson said.

The award makes Chicago the first and only city in the 36-year history of the
Condé Nast Traveler awards to be named Best Big City for seven straight years.
