CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The nonprofit, nonpartisan group Chicago Votes has released its 2023 voting guide.
Katrina Phidd, the organization’s communications director, said the guide is aimed at getting younger, presumably better educated voters out to the polls this month.
“One of the biggest barriers to young people being engaged is having access to the information necessary to feel confident when they’re casting their ballot,” Phidd said. “And that’s what the voter guide is aiming at addressing.”
Phidd said the colorful, creative guide spells out the election processes, important dates and deadlines, and the races up for election — including the new police district councils.
She added that it details the positions of candidates regarding issues young people care about.
“We wanted to ask questions that were specific, so a lot of the questions on there are specific to ordinances,” Phidd said. “For example, one of the questions is: ‘Do you commit to passing the Treatment Not Trauma ordinance.’”
She said young people are interested in the world around them and deserve information to make their votes count.
The guide is available online and in pamphlet form, the latter of which are being distributed by community partners.
