(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago woman is facing charges after authorities said she accidentally shot her boyfriend in the parking lot of Des Plaines' Rivers Casino over the weekend.
Authorities said a Des Plaines police officer was patrolling the casino parking lot shortly before 1 a.m. when 41-year-old Ari Miller flagged them down and said her boyfriend had been shot. The officer found the man with a gunshot wound to his thigh and provided first aid until Des Plaines firefighters arrived. He was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Police described both Miller and her 47-year-old boyfriend as "highly intoxicated and uncooperative."
Prior to the shooting, officials said Miller, her boyfriend and her brother were drinking alcohol and listening to music in Miller's parked Chevrolet Equinox.
As they exited the vehicle, Miller tried to set her loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm in the center console. That's when the gun fired and struck her boyfriend, police said.
Miller has a legal license to conceal carry, which was recovered by police. Her court date is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in Skokie.
