(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Workers at the world’s largest Starbucks, located in Chicago, have launched a unionization effort.

The employees at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Michigan Avenue have filed for a union election to be overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.

The five-story, 35,000-square-foot location, which opened in 2019, is the third location in the U.S. Employees at the others, in Seattle and New York, have already unionized.

More than 200 bakers, baristas and other workers have voiced complaints about pay, scheduling and safety concerns such as overcrowding, Workers United said in a news release.

More than 300 Starbucks cafes across the country have unionized, including about a dozen in the Chicago area.

Starbucks representatives say they consider the needs of employees and offer a variety of benefits but "respect their right to organize and to engage in lawful union activities without fear of reprisal or retaliation."
