CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicagoans are paying a bit more for natural gas.
The average annual gas bill is projected to be $1,350, which is about $170 more than People’s Gas customers paid last year.
The average of $112 a month comes after most were paying about $90 a month over the past few years.
Crain's reported there are a couple factors: the escalating costs of a massive project replacing aging gas mains and the costs related to a bitter cold week in February in Texas.
Meanwhile, inflation doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. According to Crain's, natural gas futures show prices staying at this level through this coming winter.
