CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mexican Independence Day is Saturday and the City and the Mexican Consulate are asking people to celebrate responsibly.
In recent years, the celebrations have included taking over city streets, and expressways, creating gridlock.
The Office of Emergency Management and Communications put together a public service announcement that included this from Reyna Torres Mendivil, Consul General of Mexico.
“In anticipation to our celebrations for the Mexican Independence, I invite everybody, Mexicans and all the friends of Mexico, to celebrate with responsibility. Don’t forget that any disturbances in the downtown area are going to be sanctioned by the authorities,” Mendivil warned. “Please be mindful of your surroundings and of the persons that want to go to their jobs, that want to go to the restaurants and shops in the downtown area.”
There could be street closures.
Those taking part in car caravans could find tickets in the mail.
