(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The owner of a construction company in the Chicago-area has been charged with bribing a Cook County official between 2016 and June 2019.

Cook County prosecutors accused Alex Nitchoff, a 56-year-old of Lemont, of conspiring with multiple people to bribe Lavdim Memisovski, who served as a Commercial Group Leader for the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Nitchoff allegedly provided Memisovski with home improvement materials, home improvement services, contracts for electrical work, jewelry, meals, sporting events tickets and more in order to influence Memisovski.

In return, prosecutors said Memisovski ensured that property assessment appeals related to Nitchoff and his associates were routed to himself. Memisovski then allegedly used his position to reduce assessed property values and extend deadlines for filing tax appeals.

Nitchoff owns Oakk Construction, which has received numerous contracts for work with the City of Chicago and was previously involved in a corruption case against former Ald. Carrie Austin.
