(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Ald. Ray Lopez is inviting people to his 15th Ward for a live demonstration of a new gunshot detection and response system to be deployed within the Back of the Yards community.

The pilot program is between the city of Chicago and the company Alarm.com.

The South Side community will be the first to try the new system in the CPD's 9th district.

Mayor Brandon Johnson canceled ShotSpotter back in September. Since then, some aldermen have been pushing for a replacement.

The event is set for 1:30 p.m. in Davis Square Park on Monday.

Alderman said the initial deployments will be tested in select locations of the 15th Ward.
