(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There have been fewer potholes in the city of Chicago this year compared to last, but one official says that could change soon.
Tom Carney, first deputy commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation, on Thursday said the city has filled about 50,000 potholes from the beginning of the year through the middle of this month.
That compares to about 55,000 last year over the same period.
The drop is largely due to the city's ongoing project to resurface streets, Carney said.
Potholes could start forming at a faster rate, as the city heads into the next round of freeze-and-thaw cycles.
Residents can report potholes by calling 3-1-1.
