Child rescued after nearly drowning in Palatine community pool

PALATINE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Palatine community pool lifeguard lives up to the job description after saving a young child from nearly drowning Tuesday afternoon.

The Palatine Fire Department was called to the Birchwood Community Pool, located at 435 W. Illinois St., around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday for a child underwater. But according to CBS 2, before they arrived, a lifeguard was able to get the child out of the pool and perform CPR, saving the child's life.

The age of the child is currently unknown, but it has been reported that the child was talking while being transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
