(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A southwest suburban children’s museum plans to offer to parents more for their infant to toddlers than just playtime.
The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn has Wee Ones Wednesdays playtime each week. It was inspired by the isolation of the pandemic.
“We were hearing, ‘Oh, we’re so glad you’re open. This is his first outing.’ Or, ‘She has never played with children her own age,’” Executive Director Adam Woodworth said.
Starting next week, Wee Ones Wednesdays will being partnering with Imagine Pediatric Therapy a couple of times a month, he said.
“This is a different dynamic, something we’ve never done before, but we really felt like it was important to go deeper into this,” Woodworth said.
“They’re going to be sending in therapists periodically — PT, OT, speech, behavior — kind of across the gamut of services they offer. These folks are just going to be around to talk to parents, answer their questions,” he explained.
Parents must register online. Cost is $5 each for adults and children.
Twenty to 30 children attend Wee Ones Wednesdays each week.
