(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A church in the western suburbs wants to make migrants arriving on buses from the U.S. Southern Border feel welcome and warm, despite the winter weather.
St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn is collecting coats, gloves, mittens, hats and scarves to give to migrants as they arrive on buses from Texas.
"What we're trying to do is, in a brief amount of time, be able to just offer a word of welcome and maybe give them a warm article of clothing – coats, hats, mittens and gloves," said Rev. George Smith, the rector at St.
Mark's.
Smith said he hopes the efforts will encourage more communities and organizations in DuPage County to do more to make migrants feel welcome.
