CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A big hearing on Chicago’s Ethics Rules has been delayed yet again.

City Council Ethics Committee chair Alderman Michele Smith has been trying to reform the Chicago government’s Ethics rules for months. Oddly enough, the proposal was sidetracked by Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her allies back in May. Lightfoot campaigned on ethics reforms and Smith and the Mayor have been negotiating ever since.

The Board of Ethics supports the proposal, but the administration apparently wants some changes. The Ethics Committee was expected to consider a revised package today, but Smith announced a change in plans:

"We're still working on some language, which I am committed to getting to this committee and the rest of city council in advance of our meeting on Friday, so with that I will recess this meeting at Friday at 3 o'clock. "
