(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After first saying she would not challenge West Side Congressman Danny Davis for his seat, it's looking like City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin is close to jumping into the race.

Davis, who represents the 7th Congressional District, already is facing a primary challenge from previous opponent Kina Collins. Now, after launching of an exploratory committee of her own, Conyears-Ervin said she could make an announcement within months.

Last spring, the city official said she would only run for Davis’ seat her fellow Chicago Democrat decided not to run for re-election. It turns out, he is running.

So, what changed her mind about? Conyears-Earvin says she's the right person for the district and she’s received support and encouragement.

“I have lived in the 7th Congressional District all my life, raised by a single mother. I know the struggles of working families. I am a working mother now raising my daughter on the West Side of Chicago,” she said.
