City garbage workers Tuesday afternoon found the body of a woman lying on the side of a dirt road who had been fatally shot in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood.
It was about 12:15 p.m. as the truck traveled its regular route in the 600 block of East 134th Place when workers spotted her, lying “on the side of the dirt road in a prone position with multiple shell casings around her and multiple gunshot wounds to the victim’s body,” a police report said.
According to the report, two witnesses reported hearing gunshots about 9 p.m. Monday night.
Paramedics from the Chicago fire department went to the scene and the unidentified woman, who appeared to be in her 20s or 30s, was pronounced dead, the report said.
Area 2 detectives are investigating.
