CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If you’re planning to visit the Chicago Auto Show this weekend, you could be driving home in a car owned — and tricked out — by actor Robert Downey Jr.
That’s thanks to the RDJ Dream Car Sweepstakes, which features a collection of eco-friendly classic cars.
“The K10 pickup is electric powered; the Corvette is electric powered; and the VW Bus is electric powered;” said Chris Mazzilli. “The Riviera has a modern internal combustion engine [and] the Mercedes is a biodiesel, which is also his mom’s car.”
The vehicles were all modified for an HBO Max series called “Downey’s Dream Cars,” for which Mazzilli worked alongside the famous actor.
“The Corvette has mushroom leather interior,” he said. “The door panels, the seats and the dash are mushroom leather. This El Camino has vegan leather interior.”
All of the vehicles have materials sourced from plastic bottles, Mazzilli added, and all six are being given away as part of the Chicago Auto Show contest.
“I’ve walked around a lot,” Mazzilli said. “There are a lot of beautiful cars, some that I’d love to own, but there are no other cars like these cars. They all have unique placards inside that are signed by Robert Downey Jr. The keys are unique.
“They’re very, very special vehicles.”
