(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Clemency has been denied for a man who raped and murdered a 16-year-old from Downers Grove in downstate Gillespie in 1985, according to the girl's family.
The Illinois Prisoner Review Board held a hearing last month regarding Robert Turner, one of three men convicted of the rape and murder of Bridgett Drobney.
The men posed as police officers with a flashing red light on a station wagon and pulled Drobney over on a country road.
Her mother, Cathy, who’s 88-years-old, testified during the hearing.
“They took my baby to a cornfield, where Turner proceeded to torture, rape and murder her," she said.
"Robert Turner stabbed my 16-year-old daughter many times and finally slit her throat because she was making too much noise, when she was calling desperately, repeatedly, ‘daddy, help me!"
Turner was initially sentenced to death. Drobney's family was thrilled to hear that Turner’s clemency bid was denied.
