CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Navigating DuSable Lake Shore Drive on the North Side will continue to be a challenge this week.

As part of the Chicago of Department of Transportation (CDOT)'s over month-long resurfacing project, extensive evening and overnight closures are scheduled for a stretch of southbound DLSD.

Starting at 7 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane, between Irving Park Road and North Avenue. Then, two hours later, that same zone will be completely shutdown. All lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Driving in the daylight won't be much easier on this leg of the Drive.

In addition to evening and overnight repaving, the City is conducting emergency roadwork on that same North Side portion.

Multiple lane closures will exist throughout the daytime hours, CDOT says.

In the midst of their repaving, CDOT has already had to alter their plans several times.

The adjustment came in the wake of poorer than anticipated road conditions after crews grounded the pavement last week. The milling exposed several potholes and manhole covers.

Throughout last Thursday, several dozen cars hit these potholes and sustained damage to their tires and suspensions. One pothole in particular near Belmont Avenue caused major problems.

Many potholes have been filled since then, but CDOT says the emergency repair work will continue.

CDOT has provided a DLSD roadwork schedule through overnight Thursday, Sept. 26.

CDOT urges drivers to plan ahead and allow for extra time in their trips. CDOT also asks drivers to look out for flaggers and construction signage when entering and approaching work zones.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the week:

Tuesday, Sept. 24:
- At 7 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Irving Park Road and North Avenue.
- At 9 p.m., ALL LANES of southbound DLSD will be closed between Irving Park Road and North Avenue. Traffic will be diverted to Sheridan Road, Cannon Drive and Stockton Drive.
- By 6 a.m. Wednesday, all lanes will reopen.
