(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A dirty play during a high school basketball game in Southern Illinois has cost an entire coaching staff their jobs.
The Eldorado School Board met in emergency session and decided to fire the entire high school basketball coaching staff -- five people -- from the varsity head coach to the freshman coach.
It all stems from a play during last week's holiday tournament in which an Eldorado player elbow-hooked an opponent in the neck during a free-throw shot.
The opponent reportedly fell to the floor, got up and collapsed again.
The school board issued a statement that it's investigating the incident and that the Eldorado student involved will face appropriate consequences. The decision to fire the coaches came over the objection of some parents.
