
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The frigid Christmas Day weather did not stop thousands of people from flocking to Millennium Park including some of those who are serving our country.
Michael Hall is from Florida. He was one of several skaters from Naval Station Great Lakes spending Christmas Day on the ice rink at Millennium Park.
"Yeah, I mean, the cold is definitely a change from Florida weather, but other than that, it's pretty great."
Mekhi Dyson Smith is a sailor from Milwaukee, and has a message for Americans.
"We really respect you guys as civilians, as you guys should respect us as servicemen and servicewomen and yeah, we're doing everybody a huge favor."
Sailor Simons Zion misses his family in Oregon but made the most of a cold Christmas.
"It's a great adventure being out here with all my friends and all the people I met here and going to see this wonderful city.
