(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In a few years, Comcast plans to have the sun power most or all of its cable TV and Internet service in the Chicago area.
The company has signed a deal to buy 250 megawatts of electricity each year for 15 years from the Blue Sky Solar Project, which is being developed near Morris in Grundy County.
The agreement begins in 2025.
Jack Segal, a regional vice president for Comcast, said the deal will do more than meet the company's electricity needs in the Chicago area. It will also help power Comcast operations in other states.
Segal says the agreement will help the company meet its goal to be carbon-neutral by 2035.
