WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Daily flights between O'Hare and West Lafayette/Purdue University airports will resume next year.
The commercial flights will begin in the Spring of 2024 and will be operated by Southern Airways Express, according to Purdue University. There will be flights 7 days a week-- with 24 round-trip flights currently planned.
Funding for the establishment of the air service as well as the ongoing flight operations will be provided by Purdue and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
"With the economic growth momentum here, I know that Purdue faculty, staff, students and alumni will be thrilled for the university and local communities to once again have direct access to the global aviation network after 20 years without scheduled commercial airline service," Purdue President Mung Chiang said in a statement.

The University said a new terminal that will be used for the flights will be named for aviation pioneer, Amelia Earhart-- pending approval by the board of trustees.
