(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Fulton Market Association and community leaders have a plan for reducing crime in the area, and now they're asking mayoral candidates Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson to show their support.

A network of security cameras is among the solutions they are proposing.

Derek Facklis with Resolution Productions Group on the Near West Side says detectives has visited multiple times asking for video footage from them to help solve crimes.

"If there was something like a network where we could have cameras that were more accessible by the detectives, we feel like these crimes could be looked into deeper than the limited view that we can provide,” he said.

They're also proposing more funding for substance abuse treatment, which Roger Romanelli with the Fulton Market Association says will address the root cause of crime.

And the group members are asking for an increase in fines and mandatory jail time for carjackers and illegal graffiti vandals.
