
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 46-year-old man with a concealed-carry gun license was injured Saturday afternoon when he encountered someone breaking into his vehicle near Ford City Mall, police said.
The man was walking toward his parked vehicle at 76th and Cicero – in the vicinity of the mall and other commercial development – when he observed an offender trying to get into it, police said.
The two exchanged gunfire, with the vehicle owner struck in the right hand and left thigh. The suspect got into a nearby vehicle, which fled the scene and caused a traffic crash at 79th and Pulaski, police said. Three suspects were arrested.
The shooting victim was in fair condition at Christ Hospital, police. He had a valid FOID card and license to carry a concealed weapon, police said.
One suspect was taken to an area hospital with a graze wound to his head, police said. He was listed in good condition.
