(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A north suburban congresswoman is cheering the latest announcement about concert ticket fees, but she said the fight is not over.
Ticketmaster, Seatgeek, and Airbnb are among the companies that say they will now list fees as part of the price up front instead of at checkout.
President Joe Biden called for the end of the so-called junk fees during his state of the union address earlier this year.
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky is sponsoring legislation that would require event ticket sellers to post the total price in all promotional materials.
She hopes that by publishing fees upfront, ticket sellers will be forced to lower prices.
"Maybe there will be some reduction in price, but we need to go in legislatively beyond this ripoff of consumers," Schakowsky said.
She said the extra fees are out of control and that ticket sellers are taking advantage of people who want to find a memorable experience.
"I think they take for granted the idea that people want so badly to go to these events that they'll decide at the end 'oh well, I'll just take this extra high fee."
A similar measure has been introduced in the United States Senate.
