Cook County leaders are rolling out a new way to make forest preserves more accessible.

Alma Anaya with the County Forest Preserve District Board says new, all-terrain wheelchairs will be available at all county nature centers, as well as some campgrounds.

“This is an incredible milestone, and it comes with the responsibility to ensure that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty and the forest preserves and their spaces have to offer.”

Leaders with the county’s ADA Advisory Committee say the new wheelchairs will be a major gamechanger for disabled residents, many of whom frequent area trails and parks.
