COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County officials broke ground today for new veterans housing in Chicago Heights.
The Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Cook County, Richard Monocchio, said the four story affordable housing being called Otto Veteran's Square on Otto Boulevard will have full services for the residents.
"No American no citizen should not have access to affordable housing but especially our veterans", said Richard Monocchio, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Cook County.
"We've made a good dent in this country to take care of that problem, but this is special for Cook County because there's really no facility like it."
This development is a partnership that includes Chicago Heights.
"It should touch each of us to see us these veterans, who are suffering from health issues or are homeless knowing that these are the same men and women who serve to defend our freedoms," said Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez.
County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said the development is an important step forward.
