(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Thousands have already voted early in Illinois, but this is the actual Election Day, and the final tallies will answer some big political questions.

There are a few races that will test the strength of Democratic Party leaders in this primary. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is not on the ballot, but the County Democratic Party Chair is backing candidates who are.

She’s been pushing for former prosecutor Clayton Harris III for state's attorney against former Judge Eileen O’Neill Burke who’s had backing from more conservative circles.

She is backing Water Reclamation District Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos against incumbent Circuit Court Clerk Iris Martinez. Martinez beat the party candidate to get the job, and is in a tough re-election fight.

Veteran Seventh District Congressman Danny Davis is in a tough re-election battle too, but his is a five-way primary fight. His opponents include old foe Kina Collins and Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears Ervin.
