CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A new anti-carjacking initiative will be announced this morning by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.
Sheriff Dart’s plan involves signing up for a program that will pre-authorize police to track a vehicle that has been reported carjacked. It also calls on automakers to more quickly help police track a vehicle.
The way it would work is car owners would go online to sign up for the program and digitally sign a consent form allowing their cars to be tracked. The Sheriff’s Office would then send out a sticker people could place on their windshields in the hopes of making carjackers think twice before taking the car.
