A Chicago police officer fired his weapon during a foot chase of suspect who allegedly pushed an officer while police responded to a large group gathering at a park in Grand Boulevard Thursday night, according to the police.

Officers from the 2nd District tactical team was on patrol in the 4300 block of South Champlain Avenue at 10:28 p.m. when they came across a large crowd "causing a disturbance" in a park, police said. They said the officers tried to disperse the crowd, and one of the people pushed one of the officers and ran.

The police said officers chased him and that he ran around a building and "advanced" at the officers. An officer then fired one shot; no injuries were reported and the suspect was arrested.

Police did not say whether the suspect was armed.

The police and the city's Civilian Office of Police Accountability are investigating.

The officer is being placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
