(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A dozen Crystal Lake police officers will be honored later this week for their work in the AJ Freund murder case.
The officers, detectives and others in the Crystal Lake Police Department received their medals of valor last year in private ceremonies, but the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police wants to commend the group publicly at the organization’s annual banquet. It was postponed last year due to COVID.
The association’s leader said the department’s efforts with search warrants, surveillance and evidence-gathering was some of the best police work ever seen in the state. AJ’s mother and father were sentenced to 35 and 30 years in prison, respectively, for the 5-year-old boy’s murder in April 2019.
The banquet is Friday.
