(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Gary, Indiana couple is facing up to 65 years in prison after the death of their infant earlier this month.
Gary police say the 1-month-old died Dec. 18 from "shaken baby syndrome," which results from forceful shaking and blunt force trauma.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Gerard Dante Coger was charged with murder and neglect resulting in death, and 19-year-old Janaya Kimberly Hobson was charged neglect resulting in death.
Coger allegedly admitted to shaking the infant as she was crying. Both Coger and Hobson said they noticed her health deteriorating over the week of Dec. 11 before they sought medical treatment.
