CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- COVID-19 vaccination clinics open this week in three Chicago Public Schools. It is part of the effort to make classrooms safe this fall.
Chicago Public Schools is looking to get as many of the 350,000 students vaccinated, as possible. The Chicago Department of Public Health said to date, more than 50,000 have been vaccinated.
Vaccines will be administered at three schools between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The first of three schools where vaccine will be administered is Chicago Vocational Career Academy, located at 2100 E. 87th St. in Avalon Park, which will give out vaccines on Tuesdays. Then on Wednesdays, students can receive COVID-19 vaccines at Roosevelt High School, located at 3436 W. Wilson Ave. in Albany Park; and Michele Clark High School, located at 5101 W. Harrison St. in Austin, on Thursdays.
Students’ families are also welcome. CPS reminded families that the vaccine is free and health insurance is not required to get vaccinated, nor is proof of citizenship.
While CPS said it’s not in a position to mandate vaccinations, schools will be asking for documentation, as is done with other vaccines.
The plan for the fall is full in-person education.
And the clock is ticking. Students return at the end of next month.
