(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police are sending out an alert to residents on the city's West Side about recent armed robberies and hijackings by someone on a motorized scooter.

The four crimes have happened in the Harrison neighborhood over the last several weeks. The first took place on Halloween night and the most recent on Dec. 5.

Police say the offender approaches victims on a motorized scooter. The suspect either brandishes a firearm or implies that he's armed, demanding the victims surrender their personal belongings.

In three of the cases, the victims say the offender followed them before robbing them.

Detectives say the suspect is between 15 and 19 years old, wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.
