CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago police watchdog agency recommends punishments for police officers who made allegedly derogatory comments on social media.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has come out with a new report after taking five years to complete its investigation of comments made by police officers online.
The comments had been made on Facebook in response to a proposal then for an affordable housing development in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side-where plenty of police officers live.
COPA recommended lengthy suspensions for five police officers for incendiary and sometimes racist comments. Three of the officers have since quit the department and the other two are challenging the proposed discipline.
