CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police are asking the public’s assistance in the hope of finding a hit-and-run driver who they say seriously injured a bicyclist this weekend on the Southwest Side.

Police said the incident occurred early Saturday morning, a little after 3 a.m.,  at the intersection of 39th and Cicero Avenue, on the border of the Garfield Ridge neighborhood and Stickney. A bicyclist was riding in the street when he was hit by a brown Chevrolet sedan traveling southbound, police said.

The victim suffered serious injuries.

Police said the driver of the Chevy did not stop and fled southbound.

One of the vehicle’s Illinois license plates was left at the accident scene, detectives said. The plate number is EW47678.

Illinois State Police license plate readers located the Chevy on the inbound Stevenson Expressway at Kedzie Avenue just minutes after the crash.

CPD released an image of the wanted vehicle.

The Chevy, a 2017 model, appeared to have visible front end damage, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521.
