CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - In a move that’s being celebrated for transparency, the Chicago Police Department says it will soon make it easier to search for misconduct investigations by Internal Affairs.
Someday soon you’ll be able to search misconduct investigations by an officer’s name or badge number instead of Internal Affairs case number, as it currently stands.
The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability and Chicago Police announced the move Thursday without a specific timeline.
Superintendent Larry Snelling said when someone makes a complaint about an officer, they deserve to know how it was resolved.
The move comes as the police union and the City Council continue to argue over whether to hold serious disciplinary hearings in public.
