(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With temperatures expected to soar next week, Chicago Public Schools teachers and students are bracing for hot back-to-school weather.
CPS Chief Executive Officer Pedro Martinez sent a letter to families and staff to inform them an action plan has been prepared to deal with the heat.
All classrooms have air conditioning, and CPS will make sure students and staff will be sufficiently hydrated.
If heat becomes excessive, gym classes and recess will be held indoors, classroom shades will be drawn and overhead lights, computers, monitors, and appliances will be shut off when not needed.
The letter also says students should be sent to school in appropriate clothing for the heat and full water bottles.
The National Weather Service Chicago is forecasting the heat index on Monday and Tuesday could reach upwards of 100 degrees.
