(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — First responders in southwest suburban Frankfort, Ill., rescued an injured worker from the roof of a 13-story tower after they fell while tending to an antenna on Thursday.
Frankfort police said officers and firefighters responded to the Frankfort Grainery, located along Old Plank Road Trail near Oak Street, at about 2:30 p.m. after a report that a contractor fell while working on the cell tower, which extends a little more than 130 feet off the roof.
Officials said the worker suffered minor injuries but was unable to make it down on their own.
Frankfort firefighters had to get a little creative with their rescue due to the height of the building, which was about three stories higher than the fire department’s ladder could reach.
CBS 2’s Kris Habermehl was monitoring the scene from Chopper Two. He said rescue teams opted to lower the injured worker into a small opening in the roof, from which point first responders planned to bring the individual down to the fire department’s ladder.
Officials provided no other details about the worker.
