(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The CTA is celebrating the graduation of 80 new bus drivers from its training program and is hoping to convince skeptics that the transit agency is trying to do something about delays and other problems.
The CTA has been criticized for months for “ghost” buses. This is when the agency’s tracker app shows a bus approaching but in reality it’s nowhere in sight.
Now, the CTA has announced — with a news release and a video — its latest graduating class of new drivers. They’ll be hitting the road immediately.
Previously, new drivers always started part-time, but these graduates of the seven-week training course are starting full-time.
CTA President Dorval Carter said the graduation marks a “positive step forward as part of our commitment to further improve the reliability of our vital bus services to our customers.”
The agency has been under fire from some aldermen for service problems on train and bus routes. The CTA has also been plagued by recent shootings, stabbings and other crimes.
