CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Transit Authority is used to transporting people across Chicago but officials are now preparing to help move a historic Lakeview building.

"We get that the community is interested and curious about this. I mean, we internally are curious as well," CTA spokesperson Tammy Chase told WBBM.

Chase said the ongoing Red and Purple Modernization project will require the CTA to physically move the Vautravers building to make way for track replacements.

"This particular property was built in 1894," Chase said of the designated Chicago landmark located at 947-949 W. Newport Avenue.

She said some of the building's artifacts have already been removed and preserved. The move is set for mid-August and is expected to take two full days to complete.

"We know the community will be watching. We wanted this to be part of celebrating history in Chicago. I mean, that's one of the best things about our city is our history and how we embrace it here," Chase said.
