(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The head of Chicago’s transit agency says he hears complaints about service problems and promises that solutions are coming.

Passengers and some Chicago aldermen have vented in recent months about persistently late trains and missing buses. The CTA, meanwhile, has been plagued with a series of high-profile crimes, including shootings, across the transit system.

CTA President Dorval Carter, speaking to the board, on Thursday addressed the service issues, which he says are caused by staffing shortages.

“We do recognize that improvement needs to start happening quickly,” he said.

Specifically, he said, new bus drivers and train operators will be coming on board soon. He said improvements are also coming to the CTA’s bus and train “tracker” systems, which passengers access through their phones.

“We will fix this,” Carter said.
