CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The CTA wants to hear from the Edgewater and Uptown neighborhoods about a unique project that is slated to begin in the new year.
It’s a first for the CTA and comes from the $2.1 billion Red and Purple Line Modernization Project. Crews will remove a 100-year-old embankment wall between the Lawrence and Bryn Mawr Stations.
What will replace it is up to residents who are invited to a series of public meetings starting next month.
A total of 10 blocks of space between West Lawrence and Ardmore avenues will be the focus of construction by the landscape architecture firm SITE Design Group, ltd.
Parking and retail space have been mentioned as possibilities ahead of the meetings, which will begin Jan. 10 at St. Ita Catholic Church then Jan. 11 at Truman College.
