CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — To fans of the Chicago Cubs, the North Side club’s home opener is like a holiday, and on Monday, the organization highlighted some of the perks waiting for fans inside of the Friendly Confines.

Colin Faulkner, executive vice president of sales and marketing, said the Cubs have installed a sensory room this season, which offers a chance for sensitive fans to decompress.

“People that have sensory issues can kind of get away from some of the issues that they may have and still be able to come and see a baseball game,” Faulkner said.

Hanging over fans’ heads will be a new roof. Cubs spokesman Julian Green said the club hopes to reuse some of the wood they replaced in the upper deck.

“Some of the 200-, 300-year-old wood … dating back to before Wrigley Field was Wrigley Field,” Green said.

As for food, Senior Executive Chef David Burns said they’re selling vegan nachos, in addition to offerings like a chimichurri tri-tip sandwich and the traditional Vienna Beef hot dog.

Burns added that the Cubs will also be offering an exclusive option for fans to eat fare from Hot Doug’s sausage emporium, which owner Doug Sohn closed 10 years ago.

“He’s a huge Cubs fan, so he’ll name them after former players, so what we have here is a beef and pork thuringer, with a little bit of beer mustard, caramelized onions and cheddar cheese; this is called a Les Lancaster,” Burns said.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m.
