(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Vowing to bring real change to the village of Dolton, several current and former elected officials have launched a new campaign.
"We're going to keep doing what's best for our community," said current Dolton Trustee Kiana Belcher.
Belcher said she and several others announced their bids for reelection over the weekend, while Senior Trustee Jason House launched his mayoral campaign to unseat current, controversial Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
"A lot of mismanagement of funds by the current administration [is] going on," Belcher said. "Lavish trips, taking flights. We have to say, 'Time out,' to spending the village's money recklessly."
Henyard and some of her allies are at the center of a federal investigation into village finances. It's still unclear if she'll seek reelection.
"If we could get her out yesterday, that would be great," Belcher said. "The sad part is the residents are ones suffering from this mismanagement of funds."
If elected, House has promised more transparency, public safety and economic development.
WBBM has reached out to Henyard for comment.
