According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), the number of line of duty deaths hit an 80-year low in 2025 with 111 fatalities reported.
That's down from the 148 in 2024. The compiled data includes the deaths of officers at all levels of law enforcement including federal, state, county, municipal and U.S. Territories.
Shootings claimed the lives of the most officers with 44 firearms-related fatalities reported. Traffic accidents were the second highest cause of death, with 34 fatalities reported, and 33 officers died from other causes including health-related issues.
