CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police have issued a community alert following a series of robberies involving a dating app.
Police are aware of nine incidents that occurred in March and April.
In each, they said, a “victim agreed to meet with someone he met on a dating app.”
The location is the same in each case: 18th and Springfield.
And, in each, the victims were met by two or three men, attacked and robbed.
In two cases, police said, a gun was used and the person was tied up or bound with duct tape and was forced to give up banking information.
The robbers then used the information to withdraw cash from ATMs.
“Try to meet at a public location like a police station,” police advised.
Awkward, maybe, if you’re connecting with someone you met on a dating app.
